ALTAR SERVERS AND LECTORS
Altar Servers serve at the Altar, the sacred place Jesus re-presents himself as at the Last Supper and Calvary for the many, the actualized moment for those with desire for intimate union with Jesus. Altar Servers serve Christ and his people with dignity and reverence at the altar. They are prayerful and attentive out of love for God and for the Glory of God.
“Lector” or “Reader” reads the first and second readings from the ambo at Mass. In preparation, they break open the Words, deepen and enlighten their minds with insights so the Words of God dwell in them. When they read, the Words of God come alive. They are proclaiming and sharing their appreciation of the Words with the Assembly.
In the absence of a Deacon, the reader announces the intentions of the Universal Prayer from the ambo.
